Once upon a child and 9/6 Target shopping trip

So, I dropped off a small basket of old clothes to sell at once upon a child and they accepted about half the stuff (It was mostly stuff the baby has outgrown...I kept a lot of Leila's smaller clothes so Lilliana can wear it next year).  Anyways, they offered $39.00 store credit or $32.00 cash.  I took the cash since I saw nothing in there that I was interested in, and I was really in need for some new school (dress) shoes for Leila.  But, I was happy that I got to get rid of some old clothes and I made some cash for some new shoes!

After once upon a child I went to Target, and here's what I bought today:

eBay!!

Thanks to my sister, I started to eBay again!!  I pulled out a few of my daughter's outfits that are HOT sellers this fall and put them up for auction.  I also pulled out both of our old/broken iPhones and put them up for auction.  One has already sold, as well as a few of the outfits!!  YAY!!  Who knew we had a couple hundred dollars just sitting in our closets!?  Anyways, I definitely have the eBay bug and I have been putting up a few items everyday.  I have also started putting together a pile of the kids old clothes to drop off to once upon a child (stuff I know won't sell on ebay).  So, hopefully we can make a few dollars while also cleaning out our closets!!

M&M's at Walgreens and coupons in the base paper!!

M&M's are on sale at Walgreens for .49/bag.  I used .75/2 coupon from 7/17 SS and I was able to pick up 8 bags for .10/each.  I LOVE M&M's...but, I am also thinking about starting to potty train my baby and may pull these out in desperate times! =)

*So, I'm not sure if this is everywhere...but our base paper comes out every Thursday and they usually have red plums in them...but this week, there were 2 red plums and 1 P&G!!!  I was excited about this because the paper is free, so it's a great way to score a couple of FREE inserts with lots of coupons!!! *

Spending as of 7/25...

So, the last time I posted, my spending had actually been in the negatives (-4.51), BUT the weekend came...and we didn't do so great...=P

Friday:  Spent about $9 at McDonalds (we had to drive out to the apple store b/c my iPhone face got cracked, so we just grabbed dinner--got the bogo big macs and the bogo mango/pineapple smoothies (YUM) and the kids shared a chicken nugget meal that they DIDN't even eat!...good news is they replaced my iPhone for FREE!!!  Thank goodness!!!!!!!!

Saturday:  My husband had some express "cash" he wanted to use, so he got both of us a pair of jeans and he got a few shirts...spent about $130 after the "cash"...which is actually good for that store b/c there jeans are normally around $80 each...but, I LOVE their jeans, so I think it's worth it.

Sunday:  We had to go back to the mall b/c my gymbucks were expiring (anyone that knows me, knows I am a huge gymboree fan!!!!)...so, with school starting soon I bought Leila 2 outfits, a pair of jeans, hair bows, tights, and I got Lilliana a pair of jeans too (but I think I may have to return them...the 18-24 months were wayyy too big and long)...so, we spent about $100.00 in there...yikes, I know!!!

-We also went back into express b/c the jeans I got the day before were too long, which is weird b/c all of my other jeans are 2R...so, I had to buy 2Short!!...short??? I always thought of myself as average height/tall (I'm about 5'6")...anyways, I guess I'm a short now???  lol  oh well....but, while we were there I picked up a long sleeve shirt and my husband picked up a sweater (that normally costs $70!) and we spent $10 for both.

-We picked up Leila a pair of crocks that she will wear for school and that we got b/c she was jealous of her sister's "changing color crocks" --$40

-THEN, we also went to Borders b/c they're closing and we wanted to see what types of deals they had....most stuff is only 10%, some magazines and a few other stuff are 40%...but, still we bought $47 worth of stuff...I picked up 2 volumes of the bob books b/c they only had 1 left and she's knows most of the ones she has...plus they were 10%--which is not a lot off, but I didn't think they were going to last once the BIGGER sale comes....we also grabbed some other phonics books, magazines and other random things, I love that store!

Oh, and we also got some starbucks...I know, I know...too much spending....$8.00 there...

Monday:  So, Babies R Us have diapers on sale for $5.00, the huggies pure and natural, seventh generation, huggies jeans...a few others....and combining that with coupons, it comes out to be $3.50 a pack!!  BUT...of course they only had newborn sizes left today...so, I went to Walmart and price matched one package of the huggies jeans diapers, used my huggies coupon and paid $3.50 for a pack of huggies!!  WOOHOO!

So, including the money I spent at CVS and Walgreens, the commissary, and Wal-mart my spending total (for everything!) for the month is already up to:

$352.99!!!  We definitely over spent this weekend, but it really has been so long since any of us have gone shopping, I think we were just needing to get that out!!  =)

July 19 spending totals:

I went to two different stores and both stores paid me to take merchandise out of the store--that definitely qualifies as a good coupon day!!

As I mentioned yesterday, I got $5ECB's back after buying the zyrtec and I got paid .38 after my commissary trip.  I did tip the bagger $2.00.

So...after what I made and ECB's, I have MADE $4.51 since I started keeping track of my spending!!

I am counting my ECB's because I have rolled these same ECB's over and over to where I have got a lot of merchandise off rolling ECB's and then received more ECB's on top of it or I just out right made money on them...plus, it really is the same thing as money...I can use these to buy things my family needs...laundry detergent, milk, diapers, wipes, etc...

Keeping track of my spending...day 1...

So, this summer has been busy and there really has been no real budget...we have gone out of town, we have had family in town, took a mini vacation up to Chicago while they were in town, birthday presents/dinners, hotel costs...basically just spending a lot of money!

I decided since all of that is over, today I will start fresh and get back on a budget.

In order to do that I will:

1.  Keep track of our spending
2.  Figure out how to cut down on as many bills as possible

1.  So, here's what I spent today:

$2.50 at CVS (but I got back $4ECB's--not sure how to calculate this?)
$25.37 + $2.00 tip for bagger at the commissary

Although, today Larry was skimming through the best buy ad and he noticed that the b-day gift I bought him is now on sale, so we got a price adjustment--$30 got put back on our card! YAY!)

So...

-$4.13 MADE today after price adjustment and ECB's

We'll see how the rest of the week goes...

2.  Figuring out how to cut down on bills:

-We already refinanced the cars saving us about $80/month
-We cut our cable bill down $15/month
-Next...I'll let you know once I figure it out!

My goal is:
1.  Pay off any CC debt
2.  Have more money in savings

So, this week I got a coupon for a FREE 8 pack of JIF peanut butter to go!!

I think these will be good snacks for the girls!

And finally, my FREEEEE diapers arrived a couple days ago.  I redeemed my swagbucks and my $10.00 amazon gift card that gymboree sent me for completing that survey, and I was able to get a pack of 140, size 4 huggies diapers for absolutely FREE!!  Plus, I still have about $1.50 credit left!!

Swagbucks, eggs, chocolate, and lettuce wraps!

So, I finally earned enough swagbucks to redeem $15.00 worth of Amazon gift cards.  I plan on combining that with the $10 Amazon giftcard I got when I did that gymboree survey....

The plan is to buy as many diapers as $25 will get me...so, we'll see what kind of deal I can get...

My husband has earned enough swagbucks to redeem a $5.00 amazon gift card, so hopefully we can keep using these swagbucks to get free diapers!!

I'm also planning on going to Walgreens today to buy a dozen eggs, they're on sale for .99 right now, and it's not that much cheaper than what I pay at the commissary...but, it's something...

I also hear that if you scan your CVS card at the coupon machine, people are getting coupons for a free hershey chocolate bar...so, if you're in need of chocolate, there you go!

Finally, if you like P.F Chang's facebook page you can get a coupon for free lettuce wraps this month!!  I LOVE their lettuce wraps, so we might have to make a stop there on day in the next couple of weeks!!  =)

FREEBIES in the mail!!

Today I opened my mail box and there were some goodies in there! =)

First there was a $5.00 off any bounty napkin or paper towel coupon!!

If you remember, during the whole month of June, if you went on Bounty's facebook page on Fridays they were giving away $5.00 bounty coupons.  I went on there the first Friday it went on, and I filled out the form but at the end there was an error message so I didn't think I got through...but, apparently I did!

Also, there was a full sized bottle (13.2 oz) of downy unstopables and a pair of black socks (random yes, but they're nice socks...lol) in the mail from vocal point.  I think I mentioned this website before, but if not you can sign up on vocalpoint.com and receive free samples, coupons, and I'm not even sure what else since I really just signed up about a month ago...

Mini vacation...

We left on Friday for a little weekend trip to Nashville (met up with my sister and her family since they are in the states for a couple weeks...sooo good to see them, I missed them so much!!)...but, anyways...we did no couponing and lots of shopping and eating out.  It was a time out from everything--cleaning, cooking, couponing...everything...and it was so much fun!  We ate way too much, spent way too much and had way too much fun, but it was so worth it.  I think that every now and then you should just relax and enjoy yourself...within your means...

Although we did not coupon we still did save in certain areas:

1.  We did redeem some gas gift cards before our trip from one of our credit cards that does rewards.  So, we spent $60.00 less on gas than we should have, which is good!  We basically had to pay for 2 fill ups instead of 3.  We also booked a room that offered a $25 gas gift card (will be mailed) if you chose that particular package (the package without the gift card included the same room but it was $2 cheaper...just didn't make sense not to get the gift card).  *Saved $60 + $25 dollar gift will be mailed*

2.  We typically stay at super nice hotels (Ritz, Trump, etc), and pay tons of money per night...but we decided to be a little more reasonable and get a decent 3-3.5 star hotel (definitely wouldn't recommend anything lower)...and it was still very nice...free wifi, indoor pool, room service was available, etc...so we did save a lot on the hotel stay also...nobody is there opening the door for you every time you get in and out of your car and there is no valet, but I definitely think I can live without that =)  *Saved about $160 for both nights by going with a less expensive hotel room*

3.  Bringing a cooler.  We packed our cooler with water, soda, juice boxes, and milk and also brought a bag of snacks (most of which we purchased with coupons =)), so when we were in the room we didn't have to spend $2.00 per bottle of water or a bag of chips.  Also, while we were on the road we didn't order drinks at the fast food places b/c we had our own.  *Saved maybe $10 for the 4 of us??*

4.  Eating leftovers.  Saturday night we ate hibachi/sushi for dinner...kind of expensive...but so good!  We had so much food leftover...so instead of ordering room service for breakfast the next morning or going out to breakfast, we all just ate leftovers--plus my girl love rice (they really embrace their Asian side, like their mommy)!!  *Saved at least $10...more if we would have gotten room service...probably would have been more like $30!*

5.  Sharing.  I have 2 little girls (4 year old and 17 months old), and I cannot eat tons of food in one sitting...I like to eat 5 or 6 smaller meals throughout the day...I'm always hungry! =)....but, me and the girls can share a plate at most places and we're all satisfied.  Like for dinner yesterday, while we were on the road, I ordered a 3 piece chicken meal and we each had a piece of chicken and shared the 2 sides and the biscuit.  Then my husband ordered his own meal.  This is so much cheaper than ordering myself a meal and then the girls their own kids meal, which they will not finish.  The only time I will order their own meal is when I order food that will be too spicy, hard for them to eat, or if it's something that is too small or not easily shared.  I also do not really care for kids meals because the food is always the same...chicken nuggets, cheese burgers, hot dogs, pizza,...I would rather have my girls try new foods, and enjoy more of a variety...

Also, I think it's safe to say our next few months of grocery bills should be VERY LOW since we are well stocked up on meat and essentials--really we'll only be needing milk, fruit, veggies, and bread for a long time!!--but, we do have 20 more coupons coming in the mail and I plan on using that to buy sugar, flour, oil and a few other things so we will be good on those items for a while...plus, I feel good about getting to donate to different organizations and people in need as we have never really donated much before!!

**Updated** Lowered my Cable/Internet bill and other ways we've cut down our bills

I kept hearing about people lowering their cable/internet bill by just calling and seeing about new promotions...so, I thought I would just see if I could too...

I called and at first they said there was nothing they could do other than give me free HBO for a month.  So, I was persistent and told them there's got to be something they can do...so, they transferred me to a customer relations person.  He was then able to waive our High Definition (HD) each month (we pay an extra $10 for HD channels) and they also gave me a $5 discount on our internet.  It's only a $15 savings each month, but that's $180 over a year.  I'll take it.

Now that I know I can do this, I'm going to call back every couple of months because apparently they have specials and promotions every month!

In addition to this (since we've started couponing in April), we have been more aware of what we're spending...so, we have cut down in other areas....

1.  Grocery shopping:
     Before:  ~$400 a month
     Now:  ~$120 a month

2.  Husband going out for lunch during the week:
     Before:  ~$100 a month
Now:  $0!  (He takes leftovers or sandwiches)

3.  Sams trips
     Before:  ~$100 every 4-6 weeks + $30 a year fee
Now:  We don't shop at Sams anymore, but we probably spend about an average of $20 out of pocket each month at Walgreens or CVS for the same stuff we would buy at Sams (toilet paper, baby wipes, paper towels, body wash, trash bags, cleaner, etc...).  I think the total may even go down now that we're pretty much stocked up on most of the essentials (body wash, toothpaste, etc...)

4.  Refinanced both cars
     We saved almost $80.00/month
(one car, we have the same payments as before, but our interest rate went way down, which cut down our remaining payments by 5 months!!--woohoo!!)

5.  Saving on Gas
During the summer, I don't have to drive back and forth and back and forth everyday to take my daughter to preschool, so I have noticed that instead of getting gas once a week, we are now going every other week (for my SUV).
It saves us a minimum of $100.00/month (but this savings will only last until the end of August)
...we do have one or two short road trips planned this summer so it may even end up evening out...we'll see...

**Additions we've added to our monthly spending**

Sunday Papers:  We probably spend about $25 a month on papers (it costs $2.00 for the Sunday paper here, $1.50 for the local one (but they don't always have all the coupons in those).  Although, on those weeks where we don't need the Sunday paper for sales Sunday morning...we'll just buy 1 paper on Saturday (the early edition), and wait until Monday or Tuesday and buy additional ones at a discount (for about $1.00 a paper).

This is a savings of almost $500 a month or $6,000/year!!!

When I look at how we've changed our spending habits, it is crazy that we would spend that much each month without even really thinking about it.  I really didn't realize that I was wasting so much money--and that I could save so much by just making a few minor adjustments.  It has really become addicting!

My next idea is to shop around for new car insurance to see if we can save money there???  Hmmm.....

CVS and Walgreens

So, yesterday we were running out of milk (I swear it would be cheaper to get a cow!)...so, I ran up to CVS since I had that $1.00 ECB from when I bought those Huggies.  They have their one gallon milk on sale for $2.79, so I got it (we have been non-organic this week =P)...used my ECB and ended up paying $1.84 (including tax) for 1 gallon of milk!!  I thought that was a good deal...maybe it's just because I'm used to paying almost $7.00 for 1 gallon of organic milk??

Anyways, I also stopped by Walgreens (since they are really close to each other).  I have a rain check for icy hot naturals (I can get for free with my coupon--I won't get the register rewards that went along with that sale)...but, they still don't have them in.

I did buy:

2 Ritz crackers (One sleeve of crackers each box) (regular price is $1.99 at Walgreens)
2 1.25 Lt Cokes (Regular price is $1.69 at Walgreens)

I used:

-$1.00 off wyb any ritz and 1.25 lt coke printables
-$1.00 off wyb any ritz and 1.25 lt coke printables

Paid $3.38
making it .84 each.

We go through a lot of crackers in this house, and we're about to go on a mini road trip so I thought some caffeine would be good to have! =)

Dining out

This weekend we ate out for dinner on Saturday night (date night!)...we went to Olive Garden so we could sit down, relax and enjoy my favorite sangria!  I decided to check if there was an Olive Garden coupon out there...and there was!  It was only for $4.00 off any 2 entrees...but, still...we used it.
Today for Father's day, we went out to the Cheesecake factory for lunch and again, I wanted to see if there were any coupons (since I'm completely addicted to coupons now)...and again...there was!!  We had a coupon for every $30 you spend, you get a free slice of cheesecake (they cost at least $8.00 a slice)...so, between the 4 of us and my dad and step mom...our total was over $60, which equaled out to TWO FREE slices of cheesecake (at least $16.00 off our table's bill)...and it was GOOD!  You really can't go to the Cheesecake factory without ordering a cheesecake...but, it made it taste even better since it was FREE!

I guess what I learned is that I can probably find a coupon for just about anything.

**UPDATED** Gymboree sent me a $10 Amazon gift card!!

About a week ago I got an e-mail from Gymboree saying if I filled out a survey and I was one of the first 1,500 (or some number like that??), I would get a $10 amazon gift card!  Well, I filled it out, not really expecting to get anything or expecting that I would be one of the first ones....and today in my inbox, there it was!!  =)

I'm going to combine that with my swagbuck and try to get me some FREE diapers on amazon!!  (If you don't know what swagbucks are, click on that swagbucks link to the right of my page and you can sign up too).  You use it like you use google and everyday while you're searching you can earn "swagbucks"...there are other ways to earn too, like through referrals, printing coupons from their website, doing surveys...usually I just use it as my search engine and collect them that way.

UPDATE:  ***Soo....they sent another e-mail saying that e-mail was not supposed to be sent until next week...so, I guess I'll have to wait another week...that's ok...

Vocal Point and CVS

So, I registered with vocal point last month, and they sent me an email saying I could sign up for motts for tots sample here:  www.vocalpoint.com/mottsfortots

Should be 4-6 weeks before I get my sample!

Go to cvs.com and print out a coupon for a free hershey air delight chocolate bar (It let me print out two).  You don't have to pay anything, just show them the coupon and your cvs card and walk out with a couple of candy bars.  Not the healthiest snack, but definitely tastes good!  =)

FREE or Cheap Paw Safe Cleaner at PetSmart and PetCo

There's a $1.00/1 printable coupon, and they are on clearance at both stores.  At my PetCo they are $1.50, but at our PetSmart they're .99, making them free!  They have window, toy, toilet, etc cleaner (I can't remember all the types they had available).  It's supposed to be safe for kids and pets...so even if you don't have pets (like me) it is also good if you have kids!
